Sitting in the dark
Seeing that small ray
Light illuminating the dust
Tiny particles hovering
And it’s just me— languishing
So— tired of the toxic positivity

Don’t try to fix me
I’m not always happy
Just because you want a hug
Just because you want to meet me
Doesn’t mean I want your hug or presence
Go ahead with backlash— call me

Drama Queen
Arrogant
Sarcastic smart ass
Oh, too smart for my own good
I love that one
And it’s your fault

I’m not a tiger— but still
You shouldn’t provoke me
It’s going to take patience
But you’re not my master
And maybe somewhere—
Between before and after

We’ll have a cordial moment
And share some laugher
As for right now— I hate you and I love you
There’s no in between
Please— diagnose me
I’ll tell you why— I’m so bitter...

Looking back— it all started in Mexico
At the Juarez Flea Market

Maybe it was Cancun during a weather crisis
and COVID-19. Maybe this is just my white
privileged alter ego speaking that dialect—
you know the one— (snaps and points
finger) American Suburbia—

My mother— my mother- — - she
— she wouldn’t buy me—
A glass wind chime
It was only a peso
But she said no
For the sake of saying no
And my crayons melted

It was just so hot—
ahh woe—
woe is me— sigh

This has to be the worst thing ever
I’m a good person— just not coddled enough
And I deserve to have what I want
I don’t know why— just don’t tell me no—
No has such negative energy
And everyone calls me selfish— they say I’m in a bubble

As if they could even understand
Why I see so differently— I didn’t create
The bubble— I shake my head reflecting—
It was my last therapist too
There was a condescending sarcasm
In her tone when she said,

“Imagine that.”

Yet— sitting in the dark
Seeing that small ray
Light illuminating the dust

So, tired of the toxic positivity.

I couldn’t find an application for—
“The School of Hard Knocks”
I couldn’t even locate—
“The Church of Get Real”
I live in America—
I thought America had everything.

You’re probably laughing—
Ha ha— like I want you to console me—
For knowing no difference—
For not being able to see—
No, I can’t see past the end of me—
It’s the wall— y’all wanted a wall—

So— I have a bubble skewed view
Instead of embracing the world
Instead of loving all walks of life
Instead, instead, instead— I learned
Narcissistic behaviors— when I could have
Learned global social concern— instead.

I LOVE MEXICO!!! NO WALL!!!
