Icons
This icon is inspired by the Nativity Altar mosaic at the Rosary Basilica in Lourdes, France. The original mosaic was created by Jean-Marie-Melchior Doze (1827–1913), a 19th-century French painter known for his significant contributions to Christian and religious art.
I began painting this image in 2023 at the request of one of my aunts. Since then, it has become an ongoing muse for reflection on the Rosary and the Marian apparition at Lourdes. This work is part of a long-term project to create a series of Child of the World studies.
At present, these paintings are available by commission in an unframed 8 × 10 or a framed 16 × 20 format. The frame is thoughtfully chosen: a recycled Douglas fir float frame, available in natural wood or painted a luminous yellow-gold. Symbolically, the frame wraps the painting in the beloved remnants of a Christmas tree, echoing themes of incarnation, renewal, and reverence.
