Ease My Soul

There might as well be
Snow in my soul—
My thoughts watching

A black bird shivering
On an ice covered limb
This morning—

I lay in bed again
After eating breakfast
And examining the weather

Before getting up
My thoughts were unsettling
Interrupted by frantic chirping

I was decompressing
A conflict and sorting out
All the things left unsaid

Staring at the ceiling
Became a living prayer
And I faced the heartache

Wishing none of it happened
Wanting to have never been there
Clinching a grimacing frown hidden

In solitude for the duration
After— forgiveness begins
Divine Mercy eases my soul
