JML-PLOGS poetic commentary is below
Quitter
You know— just how lucky
Referring to my exit—
A mere fifteen minutes
Before the contra flow—
And the fifteen minutes
Of slander testifying—
And the fifteen minutes—
It takes to make stir fry—
Oh, that look— just insists on—
Making revisions with my middle finger
But there was a time— before smoking
A time full of liquid mirrors— I could
Will the world to move in an instant—
I thought it was living like I was dying.
And we wouldn’t have gone
To court if I wasn’t dying—
From resentment— you said I was bitter.
I replied, “It takes one to know one.”
Tit for tat shouldn’t ever last
Longer than fifteen minutes
The healing time and distance
Needed more than fifteen minutes
I know those memories—
Are permanent— ingrained
And we grow but can’t change
Our humanity— so— what now
It’s a pleasure being your pin pal
As maturity breathes forgiveness
—I can’t go back to cigarettes.
