Be What's Saving Souls
I had a vision of the Madonna
Sitting on a basket turned over
Her fruit laid before her--
Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist,
Penance, Anointing of the Sick,
Holy Orders, and Matrimony--
And a Holy Spirit offering gifts--
wisdom, understanding, counsel,
fortitude, knowledge, piety, wonder--
There were no serpents in the mix
And I remember wanting to take
The Eucharist home-- to place
In my special box-- my treasure trove
Yet, I learned, I am a tabernacle too--
Eating the Eucharist forming a union
With Christ, the Bridegroom, and
The Bride, Our Mother Church--
And yet-- I did wonder-- Why?
Why would a martyr's death-- Be
For my own reconciliation-- What's
The purpose or value-- Saving souls!
From hell and eternal death--
Yet again-- I was offered counsel
Growing in faith of God and Life
Understanding-- why hell is--
And heaven is all to way heaven--
God claims us all before conception
Baptism is a covenant of salvation
And the keys are circumcised on
Our hearts-- with a Mother's love
Unconditionally being offered--
Forgiveness out of love. Too many--
Times-- I've forgotten out of guilt
Embarrassed and shying away
To the taunting briars and brambles
Only for the Good Shepherd to usher
Me back to Our Mother Church
Forgiven again. And taking
The Eucharist-- again and again--
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us our trespasses-- As We
Forgive those who trespass against
Us-- and again and again and again...
