Why I eat what I eat
Many who know me know--
"JML eats all day long."
And -- I'll speak for myself on this--
you don't want to see me hangry.
Hangry occurs when someone is
tired, hungry, and pissed off.
But to be honest about health issues,
I do have a fluctuating thyroid that has
been hypo and hyper. And I do have high
cholesterol and food allergies. My weight
is an ongoing testimony to not being a
starving artist. Typically my food choices stem
from a combination of the food pyramid,
American Heart Association
recommendations, and my own personal
My doctor orders "labs" every 6 months and
he keeps me in check about my weight. One
cooperative thing I do regularly is keep a food
journal by writing out everything eaten each
day. This is helpful for me to see where I can
improve in eating habits and its helpful to
document foods that improve health and admit
the foods that do not improve health.
My diet became a "medical priority" when I was
in 3rd grade after some routine blood labs
showed my cholesterol was severely high
for a 9 year old. I do have a colorful collection of
childhood food journals. Also as anyone
who has medical issues related to diet will tell
you its not easy and dieting is rarely perfect.
I do recommend consulting your doctor
before changing your specific diet because
everyone has different dietary needs.
